Shimonoseki Makes Tourism PR Efforts Using Social Media

The global tourism industry is suffering from a serious hardship due to the impact of COVID-19. Shimonoseki, which has not been immune to this crisis, has not been seeing foreign tourists as a result. While making its best efforts to endure through these hard times, the city is pursuing promotional activities on social media to prepare for a recovery in the tourism industry once the COVID-19 pandemic is over. It has been especially dedicated to Facebook marketing campaigns targeting potential travelers in Europe, North America and Australia, and its Facebook page has more than 13,000 followers, as of July 10. It has received a number of positive comments such as “Although I can’t go there now, I’d definitely like to visit once COVID-19 is over!”
Shimonoseki is preparing for resumption of travels to Japan, with the manufacture of a chatbot that provides information to tourists.
